Louis was one of a kind, anyone who met him remembered him. He was the first to share a joke or off handed comment that was unforgettable. Always willing to share his wisdom, those who took his advice typically benefited.
Throughout his life, Louis had a driving goal: to ensure that his children had the financial means to thrive. He worked tirelessly at Ford Motor Company, where his dedication was evident in the countless extra hours he put in to support the company. It was during this time that he formed lifelong friendships, creating bonds that would last well beyond his retirement.
Despite his commitment to work, Louis always prioritized his family. He made every effort to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s after-school events. After retiring, he embraced a new chapter of life on Kentucky Lake, where he continued to cultivate friendships and create lasting memories. Even in retirement, he was not one to rest; he purchased a tugboat to assist with shoreline maintenance, leaving a tangible legacy that can still be seen today.
A lover of adventure, Louis enjoyed many trips to the casino, including an impressive 130 visits to Las Vegas, where he reveled in the excitement of the games. He also cherished boating on the lake, often with a cold beer in hand, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. A passionate sports fan, he had the privilege of witnessing the last championships of the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers in person, experiences he treasured deeply.
He leaves behind cherished memories for his beloved children, son; Louis Drew ( Tracy) daughters; Tracie Yoder and Hollie Rumley, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, sister; Candyce (Dan) Bullard of California, life partner; Kay Vanover and many other relatives and friends, who will carry his legacy forward. He is preceded in death by his parents; Louis and Esther (Winek) Columbus; sister; Carol (John) Semanie, grandson; Brian Drew Rumley, son-in-laws Brian Rumley and Jon King, bonus sons; Jim and Joe Ayotte.
A visitation for Louis will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hill Funeral Home, located at 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc.
In honoring his life, let us remember the laughter, the wisdom, and the love he shared with all of us. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
