Richard was a proud sports photographer, loved to play golf, and enjoyed spending time on his motorcycle when he had it. Throughout his life, he was also an avid boater. While at Grand Blanc High School, Richard played football, baseball, and basketball. In his senior year, he even won Big 9 in all three sports. He was being recruited to play professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles but he never responded to them. Instead, Richard went to Bowling Green State University to play football. However, he didn't like the fit and ended up attending Northern Michigan University where he studied Criminal Justice. After a while, Richard decided to leave college and work for his father at Delta Fluid Systems as a Salesman. Later on, Richard became the V.P. and then the President of the business. He then sold the business and was semi-retired. Following this career, Richard started a sports photography business called Dick's Photography.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sue; mother, Maritta Carpenter; son, Reg Patrikus (fiance, Amanda Herman); daughter, Heather (Maurice) Lavrack; grandchildren: Kalie (Jim) LaFave, Jacob Lavrack, and Jacques Lavrack; and great grandchildren: Josie, Henry, and Callaghan. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Carpenter, and grandparents: Harry and Edna Carpenter and Clarence and Madaline Oxford.
