Richard Matthew Cox

COX, Richard M. - age 52 of Burton, MI passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Hospice House of Shiawassee. Visitation will be 5PM-8PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc, MI with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Julius Del Pino, Ph.D. officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Richard was born on July 26, 1964 in Flint, MI to Howard and Shirley (Baugh) Cox. He graduated in 1982 from Carman High. While in high school, he played football, and that love of sports carried on throughout his lifetime. In October of 1984 he began working at Meijer. He met his wife Cindy Johnson when she also began working there in March of 1985 and they were married in Flint, MI 10 years later on April 26, 1996. Richard enjoyed camping, canoeing, traveling, casino trips, and playing cards with his friends. As mentioned he loved sports of all kinds. He was especially a big fan of U of M football and basketball, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves. He loved anything chocolate. Richard’s favorite time was that which he spent with his family. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, and friend. Richard had a laid back demeanor and was truly soft-hearted which showed through his sweet and kind disposition. Surviving are his wife, Cindy Cox; children, Ryan Cox, Caity Cox, and Thomas Cox; father, Les Cox; brother, Michael (Suzanne) Cox; sister, Kim (Robert) Heyworth; sister-in-law, Renee’ (Robert) Eggert, 4 nephews and many special friends. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Cox in 2012, and two very close friends, Don and Marcie. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Greater Flint Area USBC Youth Association to begin a scholarship in memory of Richard.
