

HATTEN, Robert Neil, Age 79. On July 15, 2011, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and greatpapa will no longer experience the joys and sorrows of this earth. Born November 20, 1931 to Oakley Levi and Martha (Begley) Hatten in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended Fairfield Ohio Schools. Bob was in the Korean Conflict, Army Sgt (T) AUS (T) Class AUS Ord C, received a National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with two bronze service stars. Also, he received a letter of appreciation from the President of the Republic of Korea in 2000. After his service, Bob was hired at Ternstedt Coldwater Road retiring after 38 ½ years. He also was employed at Henry H. Stevens. He married Clare Ann Conrad on November 18, 1952 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. He moved his young family to Grand Blanc in 1955. Five children were born of this union, LaShell (Harry) Tallent, Lesa (Kurt) Sanftleben, Leslie (Michael) Mulvaney, Steve (Sue) Hatten and Scott (Melynda) Hatten. There are seven grandchildren, Clinton (Brandi) Tallent, Crystal (Sheldon) Nusbaum, Laura (Thaylen) Leany, Douglas Mulvaney, Sara Mulvaney, Robert Hatten, Michael Hatten; eight great grandchildren, Sean and Gracie Tallent, Heather Anne, Justin, Ryan and Amanda Leany, Makayla and Megan Nusbaum. Bob has two sisters, Joanne (Carl) Muntz and Melvery (Wayne) Lester; two sister-in-laws, Elaine Clark and Joyce (Jerry) McGrath and a large circle of dear relatives, friends and neighbors. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Lesa, who died in Lesotho, Africa in 1984, serving as a Peace Corps volunteer; his parents and his older brother, Oakley Levi Hatten.
Bob was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Grand Blanc Heritage Association; he was a weaver and teacher at the Heritage Museum. He especially enjoyed showing children how to operate a loom. Other memberships included the Flint Antique Bottle Club, Michigan State Button Society and the West Michigan Buttoneers. He received the Grand Blanc Heritage Award in 2006. Bob loved to travel to Jekyll Island. He was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, with Fr. Jonathan Perrota celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand Blanc Heritage Association, 203 E. Grand Blanc Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439 or to the Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Joseph Food Pantry, 11824 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI 48439. A private family service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. A very special thanks to the staff at Genesys Home & Hospice Care and Genesys Hospice in Goodrich for the loving care Bob received during his last days. You will always be in our prayers.
