Ms. Theresa Dolores Washington, affectionately known as Tu-Tu gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Flushing, Michigan, age 57 years old. She was born on March 13, 1967, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Carley Sue Mahone and Eddie J. Watkins.
Tu-Tu lived in Flint, Michigan much of her life. She graduated from Flint School of Choice and attended Jordan College in Flint, Michigan for her post-secondary studies. Theresa worked for Northwest Bowling Alley for several years, where she also was on a member of the Bowling League. After Northwest, she began working for Mascot Tech in Oxford, Michigan, for 2 years before transferring to Deco Plate Industries in Lapeer, Michigan, where she worked for 21 years. She then switched gears, making her move into the transportation industry, where she worked for 11 years with (MTA Your Ride, JB Hunt, and finally Matrix/Dynamic Trucking) until she retired in November of 2023.
Theresa was a God-fearing woman and enjoyed going to church. She truly exemplified the heart of Jesus when dealing with others. She loved people and would do anything to help others. Though she may have to tell you like it is from time to time, she would still give you the shirt off her back if you needed it, even when she didn’t have it.
She loved driving trucks, spending time with her kids and grandkids; she spoiled them, loved them, and every time you saw her, she was either talking about them or on her way to get them. She enjoyed going to concerts and comedy shows, and spending time with her sissies (sister time) and did not have a problem letting everyone know “she was the oldest sister.” In just about every conversation, you could easily hear her say, “You know what I’m saying?” She was the life of the party and would be ready to take a picture at any given moment.
Tu-Tu will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, her kids: Marquesa, Korshia, Kerriey, and Korriey Watkins; her grandchildren: Jayden “Jay Jay” and Kh-Daya “Daya Daya” Watkins, Zephaniah “June Bug” Bates, and Thmarionna “Mari” Burton; siblings: Zachary (Sherry) Hairston, Veronica (Jerome) Mahone Vanderhorst, Edward Watkins, Lisa Watkins, Steven (Yuwonia) Beaugard, Sr., Michael (Patres) Shumate, Katina Caldwell, Eric Dozier, Lance Mahone, Mia Watkins, Krystal (Chevez) Marshall, Eddie Watkins, Jr., and Krysten (DeMarcus) Laury. A host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends, including stepmother, Kathy Watkins; special friend, Shandell “Shan” Morgan, special cousin Wylie Spencer, godbrother, Al (Clarissa) Traylor, and cousin/best friend Gladys (Adrienne) Arlotta.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Carley Sue Mahone and Eddie J. Watkins, sister Edna “Ree-Ree” Calloway, brother, Michael Deshawn Hull, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Rev. Stephen L. Murphy and the entire Metropolitan Baptist Church family, Rev. Chevez D. Marshall and the entire Historic Second Baptist Church of Kalamazoo Michigan, The Medical Team Hospice, Aunt Patricia Jones & the Dream Team - Tina, Karen, and Valerie.
