He was born in Oakridge, MO to John T. Samuel and Alma Meisner. He married his high school sweetheart Betty Ruth Smith in 1957. They shared 65 years of love, laughter, and traveling the globe. Bill graduated from South High School in Denver, CO and attended Colorado School of Mines. He graduated at the top of his class and was awarded a degree in Chemical Engineering, all while starting a family and playing football for the school’s “Hall of Fame” team.
After raising their family in Salt Lake City, UT, Bill’s 35-year career with Chevron allowed Bill and Betty to travel and live in San Francisco, CA, Morristown, NJ, and Pascagoula, MS. One of their most exciting moves was to the UK, where they lived in Pembroke, Wales for two years and made lifelong friends. After retirement, Bill and Betty settled in Grand Junction, CO. Bill spent his retirement years selflessly volunteering as a Tax Preparation Specialist for AARP. Even at the age of 83, he continued to exercise six days a week at Crossroads Fitness Center with his fellow work-out buddies.
Bill was preceded in death by his Beloved Betty Ruth; we take solace in knowing they are together again.
He is survived by four loving children, daughters, Susan Lynn (Garry) Van Eerden of San Clemente, CA; Vicky Jo Samuel of San Diego, CA; Kathryn Leigh Samuel of Salt Lake City, UT; and son William “Billy” Michael Samuel of Grand Junction, CO. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Rodolfo Steven (Shea) Bonilla, Sarela Ruth Bonilla, and Conner James Samuel; great grandchildren, Kage, Trace, and Ella Bonilla; as well as his sister Artise Augusto and brother Gary Rossi. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his loving parents Dan and Alma, and his brother Floyd Samuel.
Funeral Services will be held, Friday, January 14, 2021 at 3 p.m.
at Messiah Lutheran Church,
840 N 11th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
For Bill’s Salt Lake City friends and extended family, a “Celebration of Bill’s Life” will tentatively be held in the spring of 2022. For additional information, please contact Billy at [email protected]
As Bill so often shared:
“Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy, and celebration. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”
