She was born to the late Perrin and Myrtle Lyman in Great Falls, MT. Celia graduated from Great Falls High School and received a B.A. in theatre from the University of Utah at the age of 61. She married the late William Duncan in 1952 and they lived in Great Falls for several years before relocating to Salt Lake City. After Celia’s retirement, they moved to Grand Junction.
Celia was an insurance claims adjuster for many years until she retired. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church.
Celia had many passions in life including quilting and gardening. She was a master wordsmith, who always loved a good Sunday crossword puzzle. Her sense of adventure never failed her. Celia also enjoyed painting, writing poetry and being involved in theater. But most of all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family.
Celia is survived by three children: Joan Edmonds (Rod) of Longmont, CO; Joseph Duncan (Kristen) of Woodland Park, CO; Jeffery Duncan of Grand Junction, CO; and a brother Howard Lyman of Ellensburg, WA. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Lindsay Wickman of Chicago, IL; William Edmonds of Chevannes des Bois, Switzerland; Terrin Jacobs of Minneapolis, MN; and David Duncan of Minneapolis, MN and 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made to Hope West Hospice or the Salvation Army in the memory of Celia.
A graveside memorial service will be held on June 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery of Grand Junction.
