sleep at his home in Grand Junction, CO May 21, 2016,
after a long and difficult illness.
At his request there will be no lengthy obituary extolling all his many accomplishments in his very
productive life - no mention of the 6,200+ babies he delivered during his extensive medical career, or
the fact that he'd done everything from sewing up a finger to brain surgery and many other life-saving
medical procedures, probably remembered only by those patients and families directly involved. No
more stories about all the hundreds, maybe thousands, of fish he caught (and released) over his
lifetime, stories about his travels all over the world, or the many humorous tales about things that
had occurred during his lifetime of hard work and pleasures. Instead, he leaves behind a directive that
he wished to tell his hundreds of former patients and friends how much he has always appreciated and
loved them all.
He was a wonderful. dedicated family man who will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Marylyn, his
beloved children, Steven and John Shaver, Sharon Lee and their spouses and families, and his step-
children, David and John Powers, Mary Ryan, Janet Gafford, Amy Valentine and their spouses and
families. Dick may be gone, but he will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those that loved
him. His is a legacy to be long remembered.
Per his request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered on
his beloved ranch on Quartz Creek near Parlin, Colorado.
