David Price Rankin, age 73, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on August 21, 2025. Born on June 30, 1952, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction to James Price and Betty Delp Rankin, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1970 and earned a business administration degree from Mesa State College. Throughout his career as a property manager and realtor, he worked with Rankin & Company, Rankin Realty, Bray & Co., and Century21.
Growing up near the mountains and rivers gave him a deep appreciation for hiking, fishing, and camping—passions that stayed with him his entire life and that he instilled in his children. He particularly loved hiking the Colorado National Monument, fishing on the Grand Mesa, and four-wheeling in the San Juans near Ouray.
David cherished the company of his many lifelong friends. They spent time together hitting the links, playing poker, tackling home improvement projects, or simply catching up over coffee. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dogs, finding great joy in taking walks and playing frisbee with his beloved Sheila, Shelby, and Bogie.
A true sports enthusiast, he cheered for all the major Colorado teams but cheered the loudest for his daughter Mary when she played T-ball, baseball, and softball. He also found great joy in watching movies and listening to music and will always be remembered by his daughter Annie for his insistence that they watch or listen to "the classics" he felt could not be missed. His daughters, Annie and Mary, were his greatest source of pride. He maintained a successful co-parenting relationship with his former wife, Susan Nusskern Rankin, a testament to their shared commitment to their children.
He is survived by his children, Annie (Ron) Rucker and Mary Rankin (Sarah Blake), and their mother, Susan Rankin. He is also survived by his brother, John (Bonnie) Rankin and niece Rebecca Rankin. David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty, and his nephew Josh.
A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday, November 6 at 11:00 AM. The family invites attendees to wear the colors of their favorite Colorado sports teams or sports apparel in honor of his passion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Roice-Hurst Humane Society or Community Food Bank of Grand Junction in David's honor.
