Dorothy Lee Stephens Garner, 88, passed away of natural causes at her home in Aspen, Colorado. She was born January 26, 1926, in West Blocton, Alabama, to Carl and Jessie Bracknell Stephens. Dorothy spent her childhood and graduated high school in West Blocton, Alabama.

She married Henry Carl Garner on September 16, 1946. They lived in Birmingham until 1983, then in Guntersville, Alabama, until 2004. In Guntersville they attended the Guntersville First Baptist Church. She worked at Pizitz, Petrolane Gas Company, and Amsouth Bank before retiring.

She loved traveling and took many tour trips with her husband and then with friends after his death. She loved being active in family life and activities. Her last year was spent in Aspen where she lived with Sandra. She traveled with family and to see family in Arizona and Alabama. In March 2014 she traveled to Washington, DC, and on an extensive college tour trip with family. She also made her last trip to her favorite vacation area, “The Great Smoky Mountains”. Her summer was spent in Aspen where she was visited by all her grandchildren and all her great-grandchildren. She lived a full and active life until she was stricken by Alzheimer’s disease in 2006.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sandra Garner Morris of Aspen; grandchildren: Carrie (Jeff) Parker Bell, Alicia (Donnie) Parker Shoop, Jeremy Lynn Parker, Kameron Rae Parker, and Evan Scott Morris; great-grandchildren: Emma and Sarah Bell; Reagan, Ryan, and Rhett Shoop; and Joshua Lynn Parker; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carl Garner in 1990; daughter, Linda Fay Garner in 1977; brothers: Houston Stephens, Paul Stephens, Marvin Stephens, Harold “Peteman” Stephens, and Morris Stephens; and sisters, Mary Francis Williams and Carolyn Fay Barnes.

Memorial Services will be held June 2015 at John Ridouts Roebuck, with burial at Thrasher Cemetery.
