Elber Eugene ""Gene"" Tice
September 21, 1940 - January 21, 2016
Eber Eugene ""Gene"" Tice passed away quietly January 21, with his sons at his bedside, from medical complication of surgery. He was 75.
Gene was the oldest son of Eber E. Tice and Florence Mildred Weaver, born September 21, 1940, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He is survived by son, Trenton of Denton, Texas, and Todd of Telluride; brother, Terry of Telluride; sister, Carol Lynch of Kearney, Nebraska and grandchildren, Gavin and Tatum of Telluride and Jared and Justin of Denton.
Gene graduated with a BS in business administration from the University of Nebraska in 1963, beginning a career in advertising and public relations for the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and KFOR radio. He owned Gepeto's retail in Lincoln before opening Telluride Trappings and Toggery with his brother, Terry, in 1972.
He moved his family to Norwood in 1973, and became a broker with Hughes Realty. Gene and his business partner, Charlie Hughes, often added local color to the Sheridan Bar. He lived in Tucson until 2000, when he returned to manage Tice Orchards, loving his peaches and always leading customers the very best choices. His tractor was a best friend whether to clean driveways of snow, clean and burn weeds or branches, or spraying grapes. Customers, other growers, and wine makers were his friends, always ready for a good talk or humorous tale. Gene enjoyed TV sports and Husker football. He often dined with cousin and neighbors, Sharon and Larry Tice. These last 16 years let him enjoy the cuisine and culture of Grand Junction. He often shared his poetry with best his friends, usually the ladies. He truly lived his Life ""My Way"".
A family memorial will be in June.
Memorial contributions can be given to HopeWest or Glen Garcelon Foundation for brain tumor research care of Trent Tice, Denton, Texas.
