Dear Marcy, Jessica and Howe Family. A poem. 

EVERLASTING
7 days since nightfall, 
7 light-years I have since traveled.     And now again back to you,
I am everywhere.
I am here always.
Present in your heart,
in your memories.
Think of me with joy.
Reflect upon a life lived fully. 
Upon My Love.
Upon Your Love.
This Love has carried us well through the years.
And it is well into my years that I have lived.
I go on, not gone.
Please remember me,   As,
I always did it my way.
I love you forever and always.

Marcy & Jess: I always have felt a part of your family, and that includes feeling like a granddaughter to grandpa. He will be missed. Hold tight to your memories, I'll hold tight to fond memories of grandpa. I always think of Vegas & smile. I have our "family" photo still on my desk to this day. Dear Marcy, John, and Jessica~
Our hearts and thoughts are with you. We have the only the fondest memories of Ed! What a fun and loving person.  Camping with all you, Jessica's graduation party and all the New Year's Celebrations he shared with us will be with us forever.

As we travel through southern Colorado, it reminds me of when I was a child: Eddie would return from trips to southern Colorado with gourmet goat cheese and ripe melon for our family.  At the time, I didn't understand where these delicious treats came from, but I still associate them with Eddie's visits to us.

Another fond memory I have of Eddie: when I was a child and he called our home, he always said, "Hi Judy, you're looking good!"  I could never understand how he knew how I looked over the telephone!

Later in my life, I was so grateful that Eddie was a friend to my mother, Dora May, especially after my father, Boyd, died.

He also filled a role for my son, Mike, after Boyd’s death, by doing things with him like driving him in the back of his trusty brown pickup truck to see Fourth of July fireworks.

Mike remembers visiting Eddie's home and garden in Grand Junction, and how pleased Eddie was with his vegetable crop. He also recalls and appreciates Eddie's service in the Navy and to his community.

These few memories can't fully capture Eddie's true importance to us.  We will miss him!

Your Dad will be missed by so many, and I count myself among them.  I remember your dad being our ally when we had push your mom's buttons too far playing at your house when we were young. Or the time you hadn't been driving very long and dented the car and we were afraid to tell him.  More current I  remember checking out his amazing garden when I came to visit and the great time we had in Fredricksberg. Oh, and I will Never forget those delicious pies he made for dinner.  He had great stories that he passed on to you guys and those plus your and everyone else's memories will keep him with us for a very long time. My love to all of you and tender goodbye to Ed- You will be missed by all!

To Marcy and family,   We know you are going to miss your dad so much.   I am sorry we have not been closer over the years.  However, it did not stop us from know what was going on with Uncle Eddie and your family.   My mom loved him so much; her little brother.   Was so glad he was at her service.  I remember fondly the day we spent with him on our way to San Fran.   Loved him lots.

Dear Howell Family:

We of the Grayson Family want you to know how much we loved Eddie and our time with him and the all the Howells at the Fredericksburg reunions each year. 

Eddie was a remarkable member of the "Greatest Generation" who gave willingly his time and part of his youth to protect his country.  He was willing to sacrifice whatever he could for others even if it meant giving his life for his country.  Eddie and his generation fought the war and came home and continued to serve their country by taking care of their families and their country.  

Eddie never complained and always shouldered more than his share of responsibility on the U.S.S. Grayson. He was a good man who followed the "golden rule" all his life. 

His eyes twinkled as we all recalled the wonderful stories of the Grayson men and women during our reunions. We will never forget our time with him at Fredericksburg during our reunions.  From the first year he attended, he made our time with him at every reunion so special. We are proud to call Eddie "our shipmate" and our beloved friend. 
 
Eddie is not gone but always be in our hearts and even though there will be an empty chair at Fredericksburg this year but our hearts will not be empty because of how much we loved and respected Eddie as a special member of the Grayson family. Edward Howell was truly an honored World War II veteran due to his honesty, kindness and ability to care for and love others.

Grandpa,
I miss you more and more each day! You are the best Grandpa a girl could ask for. Always to my rescue no questions asked. You have helped me become the person I am today and for that I am forever thankful!  The memories we share are wonderful and I will keep them with me forever! Sitting in your lap and you rocking me to sleep during my summer visits are some of my favorites.  My partner in crime from time to time sneaking cookies from Grandma even though she found them a couple hours later.  I will promise to carry on your legacy of caring for people and seeing the good in every situation!  
LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER!

I shall miss you, my favorite uncle.  You were a splendid patriarch, sailor, and storyteller.  At 90, you wore a cowboy hat exceedingly well. Go happily into your next journey...you can hitch a ride with Boyd & Dora May in "Henry Yellow". You are much loved.

It is difficult for those of us who are left behind, but the thought that Uncle Eddie is now joining Auntie, and also Boyd and Dora May, brings warmth to my heart and a smile to my face.  When I heard the news of Eddie's passing yesterday, I stood in my kitchen, Grandma's kitchen (Dora May's) and thought of all the times the four of them gathered together in that very room.  I hope that they are already gathered together and having a great time, once again. :)  ~ All my love to the family.
