Edward Howell passed away May 15, 2011 at Eagle Ridge of the Grand Valley, he was 90.
Edward was born on October 8, 1920 from the union of Edward and Ethel (Bird) Howell in Denver, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Denver and graduated from North High School.
He married Jewell Dean Hearn on August 21, 1944 in Denver and she preceded Edward in death on March 21, 1998 in Denver.
Edward was a communications engineer for CSP and TCI Cable Inc. and a resident of Grand Junction for the past twelve years. He enjoyed listening to new age music, working on computers, family volunteering and traveling/coordinating USN reunion in Fredericksburg, TX.
He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Highlands Masonic Lodge No. 86 in Denver and the DAV. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII as a Sonar man First Class on the USS Grayson (DD-435) and USS Lansdowne (DD-486). On September 2, 1945, while on the USS Lansdowne he witnessed the Japanese emissaries being transferred from Yokohama to the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay for official surrender ceremonies.
Edward leaves behind a daughter; Marcy Espegren-Zutman of Grand Junction, CO and nieces; Annette House of Arvada, CO, Anne Clark of Castle Rock, CO, Joy Ann Jeffrey of Lakewood, CO and a granddaughter, Jessica Espegren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 23, 2011 at Martin Mortuary. A visitation time will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 4-6:00 PM at the mortuary. A committal service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheatridge, CO.
