Eleanor Marie Strickland

Eleanor Marie Strickland, 58, from Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on July 21, 2017 at 9:51 am at St. Mary’s hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Gourick, Scotland, on April 2, 1959.

Eleanor married a sailor from the US Navy, Michael Oliver, in 1977. Together they had three children, Kerry, Dustin and Michael Jr. Eleanor and Kerry moved to America in 1976 to be with Mike. They later divorced and returned to Scotland in 1986 with her three children. In 1988 Eleanor and her children came to Meeker, CO, where she married Tom Strickland.

Eleanor ran an in-home daycare and fostered children for many years. She looked after multiple generations of families. In 2004 Tom and Eleanor adopted Izac Strickland. Eleanor was a loving “Nanny” to her grandchildren, her greatest pride and joy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Susan Patterson; and her siblings, John, Jim, Susan, Carol, Mary, and Maureen. She is survived by her husband, Tom Strickland; her children, Kerry Wilson, Dustin Oliver, Michael (Veronica) Oliver, Jr, and Izac Strickland; her sister, Kathleen McParland; as well as her grandchildren, Tony, Alicia, Harley, Maddy, Mylee, Lilliana, and Easton.

Rosary will be August 11 at 7pm at Callahan Edfast Mortuary. Services will be August 12 at 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Grand Junction, CO.
