Glennyth Margaret Holtz
January 1, 1914 - March 6, 2016
Glennyth Holtz was born Glennyth Margaret Woods to Glenn and Lenore Woods in Portland, OR, on January 1, 1914. She died peacefully surrounded by her family in her home in Grand Junction, CO, on March 6, 2016, at the age of 102.
Glennyth attended Jr. High and High School in Denver, and moved to Washington, D.C., during the heart of the Depression where she did secretarial work at various government agencies. During WWII, she signed up with the Red Cross and was sent over to England at the beginning of 1944 where she continued secretarial duties as well as helped run USO clubs for the soldiers. She was attached to both the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions.
After WWII, Glennyth met and married Oscar W. Holtz. Their children, Peter and Kristl, were born in Germany. In keeping with the couple's interest in traveling, the family enjoyed several tours to Germany and the Far East—courtesy of Uncle Sam. Their state-side home was in Annandale, VA.
A year after they moved to Grand Junction, CO, Oscar died on December 25, 1993.
Glennyth occupied herself by reading, doing some writing and traveling over the next several years. As she aged and her health declined, she was cared for by numerous wonderful caregivers, doctors, friends, and neighbors.
Glennyth is survived by her son, Peter Holtz of Las Vegas, NM; her daughter, Kristl Holtz of Torrance, CA; two grandchildren, Kollin and Sierra; her stepdaughters, Jeanne Walters of PA and Janet Von Tanhausen of FL; and her nieces and nephew in CA.
On Friday, May 27, there will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church followed by a 30-minute interment ceremony beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Junction Veteran's Cemetery on 2830 Riverside Parkway where Glennyth's and Oscar's ashes will be buried.
