Gordon graduated from Flint High School and completed his apprenticeship with General Motors and qualified as a Machine Repair Machinist.
Gordon was drafted into the Army for three years as a paratrooper where he received the Parachute Badge, Korean Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal Combat Infantry Badge.
On August 9, 1954, Gordon married the love of his life, Sandra Elizabeth Stacey in Angola, Indiana and had two sons, Dave Ashurst from Fruita, Colorado and Mike Ashurst (deceased)
Gordon has resided in Grand Junction for the past 33 years.
Gordon spent many years rebuilding old hit and miss motors. He was an avid golfer and was a great father and grandfather.
Gordon is preceded in death by his wife Sandra and son Mike.
