

She was born Jean Frances Martinez on March 12th, 1944, in Pagosa Springs, CO. Her parents were Juan Cristoval Martinez and Delfinia Martinez. She had 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
She grew up in Ridgway, CO and Montrose, CO. She later went to Ogden, UT where she met the love of her life, Doro (Don) Chavez. They were married on October 9, 1969, and together created many beautiful memories over their 57 years of marriage. Don & Jean were an amazing team and loved to travel, go camping, hunting, fishing and gambling. Most of all, they loved their family. Jean Chavez had 3 sons and one stepdaughter. Jean loved crocheting, bingo and painting. She was very talented and created many beautiful items for her family to cherish.
Jean is survived by her husband, Doro (Don) Chavez; her sister, Dorothy (Doug) Reed; her three sons, Anthony (Gina) Martinez, James (Betty) Chavez, Donnie (Danette) Chavez; her stepdaughter, Rhonda (Wade) Gidney; her grandchildren, Randi (Justin) Trujillo, Joe (Gladys) Chavez, Alexandria (CJ) Major, Anthony Marco (Tyler) Martinez, Andres Martinez, Sam (Autumn) Chavez, Torri Chavez, Martin Morales, Richard Chavez, Juan (Leslie) Vigil, and Isaac Vigil along with 11 great-grandchildren. Jean has many nephews and nieces that she cherished as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Delfinia Martinez; her brothers Rudy Martinez, Chris (Olivia) Martinez, Kenneth (Linda) Martinez; her sisters Mary (Joe) Martinez, Flora (Carl) Barrientos, Lucy (Lorenzo) Garcia; and her grandson, Angelo Gabriel Martinez.
Rosary will be held on January 28, 2026, at the Callahan Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Rd. Grand Junction, CO 81505 at 6:00 p.m. Services will be on January 29, 2026, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Pkwy, Grand Junction, CO 81501 at 3:00pm sharp. Dinner will follow at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 790 26 1/2 Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81506 at 3:30 pm.
