It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Dwane Yenter, a man of profound faith, enduring love, and remarkable dedication. John left this world on March 15, 2026, basking in the warmth of the Sunday morning sun, to join his heavenly Father, as quoted in John 10:10. He was 90 years old.
Born on June 5, 1935, in the picturesque town of Breckenridge, Colorado, John was the cherished son of Harry Milton Yenter and Pearl Eva Ring. He grew up in a household where hard work and integrity were paramount, traits he carried with him throughout his life.
John's journey through life was a tapestry of varied experiences and achievements. After attending school in Padroni until the 8th grade, he ventured into the world with an entrepreneurial spirit that knew no bounds. Beginning his career in farming and ranching, John worked as a wrangler in Estes Park and a Culligan Man, before finding his true calling in the field of blasting. In 1973, he founded Yenter and Sons Blasting, a testament to his vision and determination. His contributions to the industry were recognized with the prestigious Colorado Construction Pioneer Award, honoring his leadership and dedication to the highway, municipal, and utility sectors. Even after his retirement in 1991, John continued to share his expertise as a dynamite and blasting consultant for many years.
John's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. A longtime member of the Logan County Sheriff's Posse and a dedicated volunteer fireman with the Fairmont Fire Department until his retirement in 1989, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to his community.
On January 31, 1954, John married the love of his life, Mary, in Padroni, Colorado. Their union, which spanned an incredible 72 years, was a testament to unwavering devotion and partnership. Together, they built a family that would become John's greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, their children: Timothy and his wife Nancy of Laramie, Wyoming; Shelly Ray and her husband Johnny of Granby, Colorado; Martin and his wife Pam of Silt, Colorado; Russell of Golden, Colorado; and Rex and his wife Dee of Grand Junction, Colorado. John's legacy lives on in his 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted.
A man of quick wit and boundless smiles, John had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. His joy for life was contagious, whether he was sharing his knowledge with others or exploring the country with Mary in their RV, stopping at casinos and delighting in the adventure. In his later years, he found solace in gardening and embracing the beauty of the outdoors.
John was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Pearl, his brother Jim, sister Mary, and two grandsons, Justin and Wade. Their memories will forever remain entwined with his own.
The Yenter family extends their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers who supported John over the years, especially the compassionate teams at Abode Hospice and Aspen Ridge during his final days.
John Dwane Yenter will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend. His life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and a heart full of kindness. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the legacy of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital or a charity of your choice in John's memory.
