Johnnie Franklin Jones

Johnnie spent his childhood in Rogers, AR. He was a resident of Grand Junction for 20 years, but also lived in Glenwood Springs, CO; Groton, CT; and Southern California. He married Shirley in 1957 in Torrance, CA.

Johnnie was a member of the VFW, Elks, FRA, and U.S. Submarine Veterans. After spending 20 years in the U.S. Navy, he retired and became the owner/operator of Jones Refrigeration and Appliance Repair in Glenwood Springs. His interests include fishing, hunting, scuba diving, RVing, woodworking, rock hound, and gold prospector.

He loved making memories with his family through stories, songs, trips, and simply spending time with his beloved family. Johnnie never met a stranger. He was always there to help anyone who needed it. He was proud to serve his country.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Grand Junction, CO; sons, Gregory Jones of Grand Junction, CO: Timothy (Monica) Jones of Hartsel, CO; and Rodney Jones of Silt, CO; daughters, Connie (Jim) Meckley of Rimrock, AZ; and Patti (Belgacem) M’Hamdi of Clifton, CO; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl; sisters, Irene and Sylvia; and son, Johnnie, Jr.

Military Honors will be performed at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO, on October 11, 2018, at 10AM.
