Joleene Marie Horn, fondly known as “Jody” was born on June 14, 1956 and departed this world on December 17, 2023 after her graceful and courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. In the face of her challenging journey, Jody made the thoughtful decision to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge by donating her body to science through Tomorrow Link, a non-profit organization that trains first responders and military medics in life saving techniques. Jody’s choice reflects a deep commitment to the well-being of others, even beyond her own lifetime. This act of selflessness is a testament to Jody’s enduring compassion and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Jody’s commitment to serving others began with her professional journey in emergency disaster preparedness after she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Idaho State University. Her unwavering dedication extended through collaborations with organizations such as the Colorado Department of Emergency Management, FEMA, and the National American Red Cross, ensuring communities were well-equipped to navigate unforeseen challenges. Her authentic connections with others touched numerous lives, leaving an enduring impact on the safety and well-being of those she served.
Beyond her professional commitments, Jody was a devoted mother whose warm and vibrant spirit defined her character. She raised three intelligent, independent children, instilling in them the values of kindness, integrity, and commitment. Jody consistently served as a pillar of support to her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family and friends. She is survived by her children: Derek (Kimmi) Marsden, Timothy Horn, and Michele (Dominic) Horn; grandchildren: Kory, Chelsea, and Chance Marsden and Rei Foster; and siblings: Deb (Steve) Collins, Denise (Rob) Manzanarez, Mike Mayberry, Peggy Perry, Tyler (Kim) Mayberry, and Austin Mayberry. Loved ones will forever cherish her as a beacon of strength and love.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 1:00pm at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary (2515 Patterson Rd. Grand Junction, CO 81505) with a reception to follow to celebrate her life.
