
Joseph A. Doak sadly passed away unexpectedly on July 29,2018 at 96 years young. Born to William Clarence and Alice Blanche(Magnan) Doak in Vancouver B.C. His early years were spent in Boston and New York, where he received degrees from Utica College and Syracuse University in electrical engineering. Joe served in the United States Navy and Merchant Marines as a Communications Officer on active sea duty from 1941 to 1945.
He married Yvonne Canitrot in 1944, who passed in 1952. In 1955, he married Ruth Phyllis Kretser and raised six children while working for General Electric as an electrical engineer in Phoenix, Arizona.The family moved to Gunnison, Colorado where Joe owned and operated PERLE TV, a computer and electronics business.
Joe's retirement years were filled with travel, family and charitable works. He leaves a legacy of service to others; teaching computer skills to seniors, English to arriving immigrants or reading skills to kindergartners to third graders in Montrose and Holy Family School in Grand Junction. He joyfully gave of his talents, time and resources. He and Phyllis delivered weekly Meals-on-Wheels for over twelve years in Montrose.
His business acumen was shared with SCORE, as an accredited SBA counselor, helping others build their dream companies.While in Montrose, he was active in AARP, writing their newsletter for many years. Joe loved to talk!...to young and old, near and far and maintained his amateur radio license.
As a practicing Catholic, Joe was involved with the Stephens Ministry at St. Mary's Church in Montrose and continued his ecumenical ministry with Immaculate Heart Church in Grand Junction. He was especially humbled and honored to comfort Hospice patients in their times of need.
Gardening was a favorite hobby ,sharing flowers and veggies with neighbors and friends
Although,he had few takers for his turnips!
He is preceded in death by brothers Walter and Len and sister, Doris and beloved wife, Phyllis.
Joe is survived by three sons and three daughters. Erin(Wendy) and children Katherine, Patrick and Kimberly, Paul(Susan) and children Sister Mary Hanah RSM and Nathan, Roger(Jeannie)) children Madeline and Julia all of the Denver area.
Elaine(James) Mackley and children Sarah(Julian) Henao and Adam of Grand Junction. Lisa(Monte) Sanders of San Clemente, California and children Daniel(AJ) and Andrea and Louise(James)Devyor of Sun City West, Arizona and her children Shawn(Rose) Kleinstiver and Keith and Felipe Kleinstiver
Five great grandchildren: Miles, Lavender, Evy, Ian and Solana.
Joe's family requests that you remember him with acts of kindness and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hopewest Hospice of Grand Junction. Memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on August 18, 2018 at 10 am.
