

Joy was born on August 2, 1927 in Archer City, Texas, to Robert and Gracie (Davis) Dunn. She spent her childhood in Archer City, and graduated from the high school there. She attended Western State University, in Gunnison, Colorado, and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school in Moab, Utah from 1962-1988.
Joy married Tex McClatchy in 1951 in Archer City, Texas, and they later divorced. She married Willis Ferguson in Moab on October 31, 1974. Sadly, Willis passed away on January 2, 2016.
Joy was a resident of Grand Junction for the last 23 years of her life, and in her free time she enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilt making, going to yard sales, and gardening. She loved spoiling her grandkids, and was often heard to say, “If you don’t want to be kissed, don’t come to my house!”
Joy is survived by her daughters, Chris Henderson of Moab, Utah, Alice (Dave) Bumgarner and Ahna (Rick) Brock, both of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Five stepchildren, Dee (Kristy) Ferguson, Janice (Bob) Shupe, Glenna Oliver, Denetta Ferguson and Monie (Paul) Partridge.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
