

Born on May 3, 1938, Kathleen lived a life defined by devotion, strength, and deep love for those closest to her. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where her faith and sense of community were steadfast throughout her life. Kathleen spent most of her adult years working at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and straightforward approach, until her well-earned retirement.
On September 16, 1956, Kathleen married her best friend and the love of her life, John “Jack” Michels. Their 69 years of marriage were a testament to enduring love, partnership, and friendship. Together they built a life centered on family, shared adventures, and unwavering support for one another. Kathleen’s greatest joy came from her family, whom she loved fiercely and without hesitation.
Kathleen will be remembered for her strength, her honesty, and her no-nonsense nature. She spoke her mind, stood her ground, and always showed up for the people she loved. A wonderful and devoted mother, she placed the highest importance on her children, grandchildren, and close family friends, creating a home filled with loyalty, laughter, and care.
She loved the outdoors and treasured time spent camping and traveling with her husband and family. Kathleen also found joy and pride in her beautiful flower garden, which reflected the care and attention she gave to everything she loved. An avid reader, she had a special interest in history and never stopped learning.
Kathleen is survived by her three children: sons Randy Michels and Greg Michels, and daughter Gayle Michels; her former daughter-in-law, Nicoletta Moschetti; her grandchildren Andrew Hunger, Jake Hunger, and Ashly Baker; and her great-grandchildren Ellie Baker and Parker Hunger. She is also survived by her brother Robert “Bob” Carpendale and his wife Linda; her sister-in-law Ruth Michels; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Roberta Adams; her beloved husband, John “Jack” Michels; her infant son, Richard Alan Michels; her brother Bill Carpendale; her brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Michels; and sister-in-law Elizabeth Hayes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, located at 840 N. 11th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501. Committal will follow at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens.
Kathleen’s legacy lives on through her family — in their strength, their honesty, and their love for one another. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
