Lloyd Freestone, 81, passed away at his home in Grand Junction on December 8, 2016, after a long illness.
On August 14, 1935, in Vernal, Utah, Albert N. Freestone and May Holfeltz welcomed with great joy there first son, Lloyd. From early childhood Lloyd helped his father on the farm; he had a special aptitude for working with livestock and machinery. At Uintah High School in Vernal, he was an excellent scholar and star athlete in football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track and field. He was a member of the 440 medley relay team that won the Utah State High School Championship.
Lloyd married Frenna Anderson in 1953, and they became parents of Malanie, Kevin, Scott, and Arden; they later divorced.
For many years he was employed as the foreman on livestock ranches in Utah, Nevada and Montana. Lloyd returned to Vernal and was employed by the Dablo-A1 Company as a truck driver servicing the oil fields of Colorado. He was transferred to Grand Junction, Colorado where he met and married Virginia ""Ginger"" Mae Dean in 1991. Through his friendly and engaging personality, Lloyd garnered many lifelong friends. He was always willing to help others.
He loved hunting, fishing, camping, growing things and collecting unusual rocks. His hobby and superior talent was tying beautiful fly hooks for family and friends. He was also famous for his beef stew and corn bread served with Ginger's delicious rhubarb jam.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Scott, Arden, and Donald Dean and brother, Douglas Freestone.
Lloyd is survived by his wife and loving care giver, Ginger; daughter, Malanie, CA; son, Kevin, IN; William (Cheryl) Dean; Elizabeth Buderus; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sisters, Deon Freed and Boneta (Bill) Haslem; brother, Robert (Pama) all of UT; sisters-in-law, Lucy Freestone, ID and Jeanette (Denny) Eddy, OH.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 17 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road 81505, at 2:00 p.m.
