Maria Estela Vigil

Maria Estela Vigil was born to Marcelino Martinez and Lupita Sophia Moya on December 3, 1940, in Sante Fe, New Mexico. She died in Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday, June 12, 2021. She lived in various places in New Mexico and Colorado. She eventually moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where she met the love of her life, Felipe A. Vigil, and they married on June 14, 1958. Together they raised four children Jeffery, Julie, Jack and Joni.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and gardening. Her biggest accomplishments were her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always enjoyed family get-togethers, especially when everyone gathered at her house. She loved her precious Chihuahua, Princess.

Maria worked at many places through the years including, Palisade Cleaners, the Top Hat Motel, Colorado Hickock, Universal LTD, Marmot Mountain Works, Dixson Inc., Us Sack Company, Ametek-Dixson Inc., City Market, Capco, and the Daily Sentinel until she finally retired.

She is preceded in death by her husband Felipe, sons Jeffery and James, granddaughter Sarah Spence, Mother Lupita Martinez, Grandparents Ramon and Vincentita Martinez, stepmother Amy Martinez, Father Marcelino Martinez, brothers Leroy Cruz, Orlando Cruz and sisters Angie, Marcie, and Ramona Martinez and Frances Gonzales.

She is survived by her children Julie/Rick Frederick, Jack/Katy Vigil, Joni/Todd Spence and daughter Jeannie/Ron Lange. She is also survived by her siblings Virjino/Chris Martinez, Mary/Sam Vigil, Elsie/Octavio Gallegos, Annie/Dixon Gonzales, Marcelino Jr./Katrina Martinez, Raymond/Margie Martinez, Michael/Elaine Martinez, Ralph Cruz, Ben/Pauline Cruz, Bettie Cruz-Foster, Gloria/Frank Carbral and 12 Grand Children, 24 Great Grand Children and Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.

A viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Rd, Grand Junction, Colorado on July 7, 2021 @ 6:00 PM with the Rosary following @ 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 230 N. 3rd Street in Grand Junction Co. on July 8, 2021 @ 8:30 AM. The internment will be at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, Co., on July 8, 2021@ 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow @ 11:00 at the Parish.

At Maria’s request, she had asked that NO ONE WEAR black!
