Mark Alan Kareus passed from this earthly life May 11, 2016, at his home in Grand Junction, CO after a prolonged respiratory illness.
He was born on December 8, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan to Dr. Lawrence and Victoria (Cooke) Kareus, the second of six children. The family moved from Michigan to California and settled later in Colorado when his father established a medical practice in Palisade. Mark graduated from Central High in 1964, where he wrestled, played football and was active in band. He attended Colorado State University and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He graduated in 1969 with a BS in Physical Science. Mark was an accomplished real estate broker in the Grand Valley for the past 38 years, most recently with Hill and Homes Real Estate Company.
Mark was a wonderful husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and a loyal and cherished friend to many. He was an avid gardener and especially relished the challenge of cultivating exotic orchids and other difficult species. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and annual family elk hunting trips, an excellent cook, and a true dog lover (especially his two daschund ""kids""). He was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos and following CSU athletics in particular. He also loved Christmas and the weather, especially snow. His faith and family were paramount to him.
Mark was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his wife, Lani Kareus; his mother, Victoria Kareus of Palisade, CO; sons, Eric (Andrea) Kareus of Erie, CO and Matt (Maggie) Kareus of Fort Collins, CO; step-daughters, ReAnna Seal of Fruita, CO, and Chandra Crowder of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Roy (Shelle) Kareus of Grand Junction; sisters, Karen (Charles) Scoggin, of Boulder, CO; Laurel (Clarke) Lambe of Scottsdale, AZ; Holly (Scott) Munro of Tucson, AZ, and Julie (Brent) Pruett of Palisade, CO; four beloved grandchildren, Eva, Lucie, Pearl and Finn; three step-grandchildren and 15 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service ""Celebration of Life"" will be held on Thursday, June 9th 11:00 a.m. at Redlands Community Church.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation in Mark's memory to the Salvation Army.
