

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the mortuary.
He was an inmate crew supervisor.
Survivors include one son, Travis J. Sr. of Grand Junction; and three grandchildren.
Martie John Edward Payne, 74, passed away at his Clifton home December 13, 2016, after a long, courageous battle with COPD.
Martie was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1942. His childhood was spent in Tupelo, Mississippi, and in Nevada. Martie served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 as a Combat Engineer with the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Sargent. He obtained Journeymen Carpenter status in Las Vegas, Nevada. Martie worked for and retired from the Mesa County Transportation Department, where he was an Inmate Crew Supervisor. He enjoyed studying law, riding his 4-wheeler, helping his neighbors, visiting with friends and family, buying and selling cars, and of course, being a proud ""papa"" to his grandkids.
Martie is survived by his son, Travis J Payne Sr.; grandson, Travis J Payne Jr.; and granddaughters, Melina M Payne and Kayla M Payne.
Martie also helped to raise Becky Roybal, Paul Herrera, Rosalie Pinney, Olivia Herrera, and Bertha Martinez, all of whom he considered his children. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
You will be missed, you will be remembered, and you will always be loved!
