I was a friend of Mike Lyson's  for many years when he lived in Diamond Bar. I knew him when he owned Diamond Bar Lock. We were regulars at a small sporting goods shop next door to where he worked. I was only about 28 at the time and had just moved to Diamond Bar, and he was about 20 years older. He gave me a lot of advice and always tried to set a good example for me to follow. We went to gun shows and to shooting ranges, and spent a lot of time talking in his backyard enjoying the view that he had which was really nice. We had a lot of laughs and a lot of serious conversations too. He was a leader in many ways and well respected and known in his community. I worked at Edison at the time, but ended up laid off and decided to try doing what Mike did. He was unwilling to teach any longer but he referred me to a nice shop. I apprenticed and after a year quit and bought Mikes smaller locksmithing business called Kemp's Lock and Key. I covered for Mike when I could and he helped me as well. The intent was for me to buy Diamond Bar Lock when Mike was ready to retire and move, But when the time came closer, the price that Mike wanted ended up being more than I anticipated and higher than I could afford. Things became awkward because of that and we stopped talking. I regret that more than anything because I missed him and never expected that falling out. Years later, now, I tried to look him up and found this website and read the announcement. It was terribly sad to see that he has passed away. I am so very sorry for your loss. I was proud to know Mike. I was lucky to know him as well. He was a really good person and I will miss him more than words can say.
