Nancy Louise Durfee
February 6, 1941 – February 7, 2015
Nancy (Howe) Durfee passed away at Community Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, on February 7, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born February 6, 1941, to Leon and Alice (Creel) Howe in Chloride, Arizona, while enroute to Idaho. Two days later the family continued to Idaho where her father was employed in the mining industry. This required several relocations during her early childhood. Some summers were spent in the high mountains, sometimes living in tents or rustic cabins.
Her father eventually received permanent work at the Idarado Mine in Telluride, Colorado, where she attended school, graduating in 1959.
She gained employment with the Telephone Company and worked for 15 years in Telluride and Durango. During this time she met Keith Durfee. They were married on November 6, 1966. She worked in Durango banks for another 12 years.
Her husband was employed by the Colorado Department of Highways for 31 years. He was involved in the engineering and construction of highways and bridges in southwestern Colorado. After retiring in 1996, they moved to their current home in Fruita.
They enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and later RVing, where they met many dear friends.
Her parents and one brother preceded her in death. Survivors are her husband, Keith Durfee of Fruita; and brother, Timothy Howe of Bloomfield, New Mexico.
At her request no services will be held at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
