Richard ""Dick"" Porter passed away peacefully in Grand Junction CO on March 11, 2015.
He was born August 7, 1932, in Grand Junction, CO and attended Palisade HS where he was very active in all sports. He graduated from Colorado State College of Education (UNC) where he was selected to the All American College Baseball Team and inducted into the campus Sports Hall of Fame. His picture still hangs in Gunter Hall.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly; children, Kirk (Katy); Krisann Wist (Doug); Kimberly Chrisman (Mark); Kerilynn Davis (Bill); Kelley Henke (Jeff), and Kyle (Kelly); brother, Jack (Pauline); sister, Sally Porter; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents, John and Mayjewel, and his younger brother, JD.
He served honorably for four years in the Marine Corps in North Carolina, came back to Colorado and obtained a Master's Degree in Ed Psych & Guidance. He was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor in LaSalle, then moved to Ft. Morgan where he was an administrator at FMHS until he retired in 1994.
It was his love of sports and education where he had such a positive effect on so many young people's lives. He was a man of strong morals, values, and work ethics: a leader in every sense of the word. He would strike up a conversation with everyone he met and long lasting friendships developed because of his engaging and friendly personality.
He will be forever loved and missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to HopeWest Hospice.
Memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction, CO on Tuesday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
