Shortly after his birth, Robs parents, along with him and his sister Renee, moved to St. Louis, Missouri. There he attended Bryan Hill Elementary. At the age of 13, he returned to Colorado to live with his father. It was here he found his love for the mountains and outdoors: hunting, fishing and riding his horse, Chrissy.
In 1976 at the age of 18, he attended trade school where he learned everything he knew about welding. At age 19, he was working underground in the mines in Colorado, doing drilling and blasting. At the age of 21 he was working at the Sunday Mines on Monogram Mesa mining for uranium. After a major injury a year later, he returned to Missouri to live again with his mother.
At the age of 22, he walked down the road to a local fire station and stepped inside where he found several men sitting at the table and asked, “How do I get from here(pointing at his feet) to there(pointing at them). After a year and a half of study, he worked in the ER tearing tape and refilling supply drawers. He finally became an official Paramedic, where in both Missouri and Wyoming he worked many long tiring days and was very highly respected.
It was during this time Rob met and married the now late Shirley (Rolf) Wilson of St. Louis, Missouri. They moved from St. Louis to Olathe, Colorado where they both worked for San Juan Living Center in Montrose. Eventually moving his personal experience to the State Home in Grand Junction, he continued his work in the Health Care system. When the State Home was shut down, Rob met Donna and John Harold whom had opened a Home in Olathe to house several of the residents from that State Home. He was hired and helped run and manage the 'residents’ until that was shut down in the ‘90’s. Rob and then wife Shirley welcomed four of the residents into their home where they lived and worked for another 3 years. As those residents passed on, Rob and the family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. After 17 years and 2 beautiful children, Rob found himself a single parent and began driving school bus for Laidlaw in 1997 to support his small family. In 1999, he decided to move to Alaska.
In the fourth grade, he read about Alaska and never lost the passion he felt. Having a good friend from church in Grand Junction, he learned of a brother his friend had in Delta Junction. In 2000, having gained his adventurous nature and love for travel from his father, packed up his truck, trailer, 2 kids and the dog and headed North to Alaska, “The Last Frontier”. Just weeks before leaving, he met his current wife, Sandy, and spent short periods of time visiting before he left. After a year of long distance communication, he flew to Colorado and together they drove back to Alaska. They were married a year later, on Christmas Day, in Delta Junction, Alaska in 2002.
Rob was very involved in his Church in Grand Junction. He loved helping the boy scouts make their wooden pinewood derby cars they raced. He enjoyed the Men's’ Groups and cooking breakfasts for the Saturday morning meetings. His love for cooking showcased when he prepared meals as well, in the Donna and John Harold House in Olathe, for his family at home and other special events. He LOVED playing his guitar, which he did daily, and singing while he played. From 2010 to 2020, he was a member of the ‘Half Way Home’ Band in Delta Junction who played at local establishments and both the Delta Jct. and Salcha Fairs. Rob was an avid hunter from a very young age. He loved fishing, making many trips to Chitna and Valdez.
Rob will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his Joyful Spirit will resonate in our lives forever.
