Robert “Bobby” Russell Carrillo, age 68, was born on April 6, 1957, in Denver, Colorado, to William Carrillo and Susan Casias. He grew up in Denver, attended private Catholic school in his early years, and finished at Lincoln High School, where he excelled in boxing, basketball, and football.
As a young man, Bobby worked a variety of jobs, but he became especially known for his exceptional talent in sales. He achieved recognition as a top salesman and regional manager for two wholesale buying clubs in the Denver area.
In 1990, Bobby met the love of his life, Susie Wieland, and the two were married on August 4, 1991, at Rifle Falls, Colorado. They shared 34 beautiful years of marriage. The couple lived in Golden until 1997, when they moved to Aspen, where Bobby worked faithfully as an Estate Manager from 1997 to 2019. During that time, they attended Crossroads Church of Aspen and formed many lifelong friendships.
Together, Bobby and Susie blended a family of seven children—Bobby’s five and Susie’s two—and were blessed with 14 grandchildren, all of whom they lovingly considered “their children together.”
In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Bobby and Susie moved to Parachute, Colorado. Shortly after the move, Bobby suffered a brain aneurysm, and his miraculous survival and recovery became one more testament to his faith and resilience. He happily retired in Parachute, where he found deep joy in home life, church, and community.
Boxing was woven through every chapter of Bobby’s life. He fought in over 100 amateur bouts and was a several time Golden Gloves Champion. His knowledge of the sport was unmatched—he could recount every major boxing event with detail and passion. Over the years, he trained men, women, and children in both Aspen and Parachute. Coaching became more than a sport for him—it was a ministry. His greatest desire was to share not only boxing skills but also the hope he found in Jesus, investing his heart and soul into every life he touched.
Bobby and Susie have been faithful members of what is now Faith Journey Church of Parachute since 1991. Bobby was baptized in 1989 by Pastor John Yadloski, who became one of the greatest mentors in his life. Bobby shared his testimony boldly at multiple venues, including Gideon’s banquets, where he later had the privilege of becoming a Gideon himself. He often joked that he must have been “God’s favorite kid” because of the radical transformation he experienced after coming to faith.
Bobby loved his family unconditionally and had a gift for making friends everywhere he went. He was known for his outgoing personality, his stories, his endless humor, and his unmistakable “gift to gab.” He also possessed a beautiful singing voice and a surprising talent for impersonations and accents.
One of Bobby’s greatest passions was fishing. For more than a decade, he and Susie spent summers in their travel trailer at Blue Mesa, Colorado, hosting family and friends and ensuring everyone caught at least one fish—which he proudly cleaned and cooked himself. Before that, the couple enjoyed traveling to several countries in Central and South America.
In Parachute, Bobby cherished his church, his men’s Bible study, and his local gym—The Battlement Mesa Rec Center—where he trained diligently six days a week and coached his beloved boxers.
Tragically, nine days before his passing, Bobby lost his precious granddaughter MacKenzie, age 24. She was, in his words, “the light of his life and the apple of his eye,” and her passing deeply shattered his heart.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Susie, and his children:
Jasmine of Rancho Cordova, CA; Shannon of Parachute, CO; Bobby Jr. (Monica) of Concord, CA; Desirae of Tempe, AZ; Shaun (Erica) of Glenwood Springs, CO; Julius of Denver, CO; and Jordan (Rachel) of Aurora, CO.
He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren: Devon (Kim), Riley (Kylie), Dominic, Diego, Alysa, Drayden, Jazmin, Jorneli, Arbor, Raeannon, Stryker, Samantha, and Brea; his sisters Linda Anguiano of Westminster, CO, and Sandy Carrillo of Aurora, CO; and his brother Billy Carrillo of Spearfish, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved granddaughter MacKenzie.
