On March 14, 2017 Roger Neal Stollings left his earthly home and peacefully entered Heaven. He was 88 years old. Roger was born on November 30, 1928 to Joseph and Pearl Stollings and was the 7th of ten children. He was born and raised in Xenia, Ohio and began working at a young age to help support his large family. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in Germany in the aftermath of World War II and continued into the Korean war before separating from the service in 1952.
While serving in Germany he met Ingrid Odenthal. They were married in 1951 and she remained the love of his life for more than 65 years, until his passing. They raised 2 sons together. Roger spent the next 30+ years in Xenia working as a supervisor for SuperValu Grocers. Roger and Ingrid eventually retired to St. Petersburg, FL and spent the next 30 years traveling and enjoying being grandparents and great-grandparents. In 2015 they moved to Grand Junction, CO to be closer to family.
Roger was a Fix-It man and loved tinkering in his garage, yard work, and building anything he could think of. He and Ingrid also enjoyed taking cruises in their retirement. He was a wonderful father, Opi (grandfather) and friend and will be missed by so many who love him.
Roger is preceded in death by his son Jan Gene Stollings, his mother and father, and 7 of his siblings. He is survived by his son Michael (Christine) Stollings of Reno, daughters-in-law Susan Stollings and Sharon Bochmann, sister Marvina Custer and brother Richard Stollings. He loved being an Opi to 6 grandchildren, Shauna (Justin) Burnes, Michael (Inge) Stollings, Kristy (Mike) Hedler, Carissa (Randy) Haines, Ty (Jacquie) Stollings, Eleni Stollings, and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to HopeWest Hospice for the loving care given to Roger and his family over the past few weeks. We are truly grateful. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to HopeWest Care Center at 3090 N. 12th Street, Unit B Grand Junction, CO 81506.
