

Sonya spent her early years on the family farm in Orion, Kansas before moving to Clifton, CO in 1956. Sonya graduated from Central High School in 1960.
She married Wilbur G Bishop on August 22, 1961, in Clifton, CO.
Wilbur’s career with the US Marine Corp took them to many places across the US and even to Hawaii before they retired back to the Grand Valley in 1980.
Sonya’s primary job was being a military wife and mother to her three children. Wilbur was sometimes gone for months or even a year at a time, so she had to be both mom and dad. She supported her kids in whatever activities they wanted to do, not just making sure they got to meetings or practices, but also becoming part of the organizations. She was a class mom, girl scout leader, football mom and even a temporary baseball coach when the official coach was redeployed mid-season.
Sonya was also involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren the same way, always willing to help get kids to and from practices.
In her later years she enjoyed going to the grandkids and great grandkids’ sporting events and concerts.
Sonya is survived by her son Bradley Bishop and daughters Tara Guyer and Shauna (J.T.) Westcott.
Sisters Coleen (Bill) Schreiner, Vicki (Merv) Anway and Debbie Pense.
Grandchildren: Robert McClure, Mandy (Robert) Pauletich, Devinn Bishop, Dalton Bishop, and Marshall Westcott.
Great Grandchildren: Joshua, Brook, Ivy, Bridgette, and Lewis. And numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Wilbur, parents Harold and Eva Mae Beougher, and brothers Ronnie and Clifford Beougher.
A a celebration of life for Sonya will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary & Crematory, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, Colorado 81505.
