

Walter D. Carnett Jr., aka Tex Carnett, was born September 13, 1929, to Walter Durward Carnett Sr. and Edna Bishop Carnett in Lubbock Texas. Walter spent his childhood in Big Spring Texas until 1942 when his family moved to Grand Junction Colorado. He attended and graduated from Grand Junction High School 1946 and went on to attend Mesa Junior College and Colorado University Boulder Colorado.
Walter's family was first in the radio and appliance business in Grand Junction and later began their Real Estate company and built many single family and multifamily homes in the Grand Junction area. When Walt first moved to Grand Junction from Texas his friends nick named him "Tex" and the name stuck. To his grandchildren he is "Grampa Tex" and nephews and nieces "Uncle Tex".
Walter and his first wife Patricia Bacon of Grand Junction moved to Bakersfield California in 1956 with their two daughters Linda Rae Carnett and Beverly Ann Carnett where Walter owned and operated a Hearing Aid business. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Bakersfield Country Club and the Elks. He also loved spending vacations at the beach with other families from the Bakersfield area. Carpinteria was one of the family's favorite places to spend summer vacations.
Walter moved back to Grand Junction in 1964 after his divorce and renewed his Real Estate business developing income properties and commercial Real Estate and was the managing Real Estate Broker at Home Loan State Bank. When he met his love and lifelong partner of 47 years, Carol M. Bond, they established their Real Estate company Tamarack Properties in 1974 and survived the 1982 Black Monday. In 1989 they purchased a cabin in the Arrowhead subdivision in Colorado, with their mutual love for the mountains and the Arrowhead community they established Tamarack at Arrowhead Real Estate which they worked together until his death.
Walt and Carol loved to travel and went on many wonderful trips together, London, Egypt, Fiji and Hawaii to mention a few. They also spent several summers in the Pacific Northwest on their boat fishing and exploring the Canadian inland channel. Walter also had his pilots license and owned a small airplane he loved to fly. The two had many adventures flying to various places together. Walt and Carol were avid skiers and would spend month long ski vacations at various ski resorts, Jackson Hole, Park City, Banff Canada, and their favorite Powder Mountain, Utah. Walt and Carol loved their mountain cabin at Arrowhead Colorado and spent half the year there working selling and buying properties and entertaining and welcoming family and friends for visits. All their children and grandchildren spent many memorable vacations, both summer and winter. Christmas was always a special time with sledding and snowmobiling in a winter wonderland. Walt and Carol's home was always open for a drop-in friendly visit.
Walter is survived by his wife Carol M. Bond, daughters from his first marriage, Linda Rae Carnett-Eggert, Bakersfield California, Beverly Ann Carnett, Grand Junction Colorado. Grandchildren Summer Lajoie, (Jason) Colorado Springs CO, Rachael Brakey, Grand Junction CO, Julia Eggert, Denver CO. Great grandsons Ogden Lajoie and Arlo Lajoie. Stepdaughter Jeri Simms, Cimarron CO. Stepson David Bond (Debra) Billings MT. Granddaughter Brittany Bond-Barnhart and grandson Presley Bond, Billings MT. Jordan Simms, Santa Fe NM. and great grandson Beau Barnhart.
Services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00, burial to follow Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
