

Charlie R. Vines joined his Heavenly Father on 12-23-2011 surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Sandra Kay and daughter Jennifer Vines, granddaughter Carissa Gay and grandson Kenneth D. Gay III of Nashville, TN. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Bob Thompson of Wills Point, TX as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Charles was born 02-17-1940 in Colorado City, TX and predeceased by parents Elvis Vines and Lena Northern.
He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the US Army attached to the 49th Armored Division where he taught tank/truck mechanics. He was a licensed barber working at shops in Wynnewood Village and Grand Prairie. Charles worked at LTV from 1967 until 1977 when he joined General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin, Fort Worth retiring in May, 2003.
From 2003 until 2010 Charles and Sandra enjoyed traveling visiting 49 states, Canada, and South America. The greatest joy and the blessings of his life were his daughter and grandchildren who would accompany Papa and Mimi on their travels. His was affectionately know as PAPA to the many friends of Kenneth and Carissa.
Charles loved the Lord serving as a deacon at Matthew Rd. Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Grand Prairie.
Charles belonged to Sam R. Hamilton Lodge 1031, Dallas Consistory Scottish Rite and Hella Shrine where he served as an Outer Guard and marched with the Hella Shrine Marching Patrol.
The family appreciates the loving care many individuals gave to Charles throughout his life including Integra Hospice of Bedford, Dr. Vinit Lal, Terry, and Tracy from The Heart Place of Arlington, and Dr. Tim Dao of Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the "For the Kingdom" Building Fund, First Baptist Church, 201 North Street, Grand Prairie, TX
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 26 from 5 pm till 7 pm in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 201 North Street Grand Prairie. On Dec. 27, 9:00 to 9:45 am the family will greet Charles' many friends at a reception in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 10 am.
