

Charlotte Shanks, 89, of Grand Prairie, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Dallas. Funeral services will take place at 9:30am on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, Dalworth Chapel. Burial will follow at 11:30am at Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery. Charlotte was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 18, 1923, to the late Edgar H. and Janet (Clough) Fitzhugh and raised in East Dallas. She has been a resident of Grand Prairie since 1946. Her passion was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she loved being involved with them as much as possible. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at The Arbrook Retirement Village. She was responsible for helping establish the church service at The Arbrook. Charlotte became an avid traveler in her later years and enjoyed trips to Australia and China, among other places. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Roy Ready; second husband of 16 years, L.B. Benningfield; third husband of 5 years, Bob Shanks; granddaughter, Amy Johnson; one sister; and two brothers.
Those left to cherish Charlotte’s memories include her daughter, Paula Monroe and husband Fred; two grandsons: Chris Monroe and wife Colleen, and Stephen Monroe; and five great-grandchildren: MacKenzie and Chloe Monroe, Ashlyn Porter, and Brendan and Lauren Johnson. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
