On Sunday December 7, 2025, David “TwoFox” Sullivan Self, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at age 87. The name TwoFox reflects his proud native american heritage. He was born in Lake Charles, LA on July 18, 1938, to Wiley and Lora Self. In high school, in addition to his exceptional educational performance, he ran track and played multiple musical instruments. A gifted storyteller, anyone who knew David for longer than 5 minutes knew his stories. From Uncle Charlie’s Rooster to Buddy’s Airplane, he entertained his children, grandchildren and anyone who would listen for as long as they would allow. After high school, he served in the Army Reserve for 8 years as well as the Louisiana National Guard prior to entering the accounting field. Recognizing the opportunity in the budding computer industry, he was a self-taught programmer and was truly a trailblazer in applying computer technology in the accounting field. His ongoing education included earning a master’s degree in accounting from Illinois State University in 1997. He was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Chi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. He was a card-carrying member of Mensa who had a passion for teaching. He bookended his career with international travel for that purpose and capped his travelling adventures in Germany during the 9/11 tragedy. Shortly thereafter he brought his career at Caterpillar Motors to a close through retirement. Although he worked with many companies as a programmer, he took great pride in earning multiple awards, promotions and certifications during his 14-year career with them. He was an expert marksman and a talented photographer who had a great appreciation for the beauty of nature, especially birds. His many other interests included fishing, hunting, bread making, wine making and drinking coffee. In recent years, he developed an enjoyment for singing karaoke and he became deeply involved in the church again singing as part of the ministry for the elderly. While a wildly spirited individual, he was a patriot and a devout Christian who practiced his gentle message without pretense, setting a great example of how one should go through life with compassion, care and dignity. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend with a spirit of generosity and humor that will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Paulette Self; father Wiley Self; mother Lora Self; brothers Buddy and James Self; sister Agnes Kersh. He is survived by his dedicated wife and best friend Cheryl Arrington Self of 3 ½ years; daughter Carole Copeman; son in law Karl Copeman; son David Self as well as four adult grandchildren and five great grandchildren. For all his accomplishments, those who know him best will remember him as ‘just plain David’.
A memorial service will be held at later date to be determined.
