Mr. Dennie Wayne West was taken from us on Easter day at the age of 61. Dennie was a big man. He was big in stature and big in heart. His father, Rocious Voldie West, and mother, Mary Elizabeth Osbourne-
West, brought him into a big family of eight boys, and five girls, all of which preceeded him, except his older brother, Paul Wiley West.
Dennie was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi on 24 February, 1951. Dennie was a friend to most people he met; he was a loyal and loving family member; and became “Uncle Denny” to anyone who liked and respected him…in and outside of the family. Denny was keeper of the family tree until his eyesight made him pass it on to another.
This was not a job to him. He kept in touch with all his siblings and their off-spring on a regular basis. He always helped family members when he could. Not having children of his own, he always tried to help the children around him in any way he could. Some were by socializing, some by helping with homework, some with supplying presents at the right time. Everyone felt they were special in his eyes.
Denny followed in his father’s footsteps, and those of most of his brothers and enlisted into the military. He was always proud to share a “Semper Fie” with his fellow marines at the VA.
We that knew and loved him will miss him greatly. His passing left a big hole in our hearts.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandprairiefh.com for the WEST family.
