Donald was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on January 20, 1939 to Earl A. Whitlow and Reba Lyons Whitlow. He attended school in Blair, Oklahoma before moving to Grand Prairie, Texas. There he attended Grand Prairie High School.
Donald joined the US Air Force in 1957 and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. During his military career he was able to travel to many countries. He retired from the Air Force in 1962 as an Airman Second Class, ACFT Mechanic. Donald loved to travel and lived in England, where he started his career in aircraft maintenance. During this time, he also married and had three children, all born in England.
By 1975, he and his family had moved back to Grand Prairie and he continued a long career in the aerospace industry. He finally retired in his early 70s. Donald had a passion for sailboats and would often travel to Spain. He would visit the docks and look at the various types of sailboats. After learning all he could, he purchased his own sailboat and sailed often on Grapevine Lake. Donald also loved to work on cars and never used a mechanic. He also enjoyed building things. He built his own house, from the ground up, needing to only use contractors for jobs he could not do himself. Definitely a "jack of all trades".
Donald is survived by his wife, Maria, their three children, Tina, Andrew and Annabel, and one grandchild, Alex Templin.
A committal service for Donald will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 1:15 PM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandprairiefh.com for the Whitlow family.
