Elias Anthony Chandarlis, 76, passed away on Friday, May 20th in Willow Park, Texas. He was known by everyone outside of his immediate family as simply “Tony.” He was born in Laredo, Texas to Anthony and Rosa (de Los Santos) Chandarlis in 1946.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on his 17th birthday and proudly served during Vietnam. Tony was employed at Vought Aircraft for 37 years before his retirement in 2004. He met and married Tommie Sue Fulling in early 1972 and became a father to Shannon in 1973. Tony was also a 40 year member of the Roy Stanley Masonic Lodge in Dallas, Texas.
In his younger days, he was a great cook who loved to entertain at home around the grill and pool. He enjoyed travelling to the beach, fishing, car races and drinking beer. After his retirement, he enjoyed staying home with his dogs, listening to old country music, watching westerns and drinking beer. He loved to joke around and people watch while adding his colorful commentary. His sense of humor will be missed by (mostly) all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Rosa Chandarlis, sister-Demetria DuMond and 7 brothers-Thomas, Stanley, Charles, Theodore, George, Frank and John Chandarlis.
Tony is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tommie Sue; his daughter Shannon; his beloved terriers Riley and Laddie and his grand-pup, Copper. Other survivors include sister Elaine Sanders and her husband Ralph, sister Sophia Bravos and her husband George, brother Angelo Chandarlis and his wife Norma as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday morning, June 17th at 9:30am at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. Interment will follow at 11:30 am at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
