Ernest Washington Batey

Ernest Washington Batey left this world Wednesday May 23, 2012 at 6:00pm at the age of 81. He was a resident of Lancaster, Texas and worked as a hydraulic engineer in Dallas for approximately 30 years. Born in Hinton Oklahoma on June 5, 1930 to Syres and Julia Batey. At age 5 he moved with his family to California where he attended school and worked in the farming belt of the San Joaquin Valley later residing in San Jose, California.

Ernest enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 at age 20, serving his country for five years during which time he married Geneva Melton on March 1, 1952 in Churchilla, California. Five years later the couple had a son, Dale Batey presently of Lancaster, Tx. Ernest was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

He enjoyed church, visiting with family and friends, and playing golf. He was an avid fan of golf and many other sports.

He was preceded in death by his father, Syres Batey, mother Julia Batey, and an older brother Wayne Batey.

He is survived by his wife Geneva, son Dale and his wife Linda Batey and granddaughter Krista Renee Batey; his sister Flora Carpenter and husband Ronal Carpenter, nephews Rick Carpenter, Johnny Batey and Darrell Batey. Nieces Julia Batey, Cindy Johnson and Deanna Carpenter. Several great nieces and nephews and a past of friends.
