

Irene was born October 15, 1950, to Evelyn Elizabeth Maxfield Baier and John Edison Baier in Lincoln, Nebraska. The second of six children, she was raised in Avoca, Nebraska and graduated from Nehawka High School. Irene was a cheerleader, involved in 4-H, volleyball, Future Homemakers of America and other extracurricular activities. She attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University-Provo studying family and home development. Her greatest desire was to be a wife and mother. On September 15, 1971, she was sealed to her eternal companion, Dennis Ned Moon of Heyburn, Idaho, in the Logan Utah Temple. Throughout their marriage they lived throughout the United States and Germany before settling in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1991. She became the mother of what she felt were the ten most beautiful, talented children.
Her many interests and talents included woodworking, upholstery, embroidery, sewing, baking, reading, dancing and she became an avid collector of all things vintage and beautiful. She had a love for music including piano and singing and encouraged several of her children in those pursuits. She loved See’s Chocolates, flowers, period dramas, birds, George Strait, rodeos and the peace of the country. Irene was also talented in canning which included the best applesauce, pears, sweet pickles and plum jam. She was known for her pies, potato salad and “frog-eye” salad. She loved to play Pitch and other card games and could not lose. Her bowling game was unmatched. Her proudest moments were watching her children and grandchildren in their various performances and endeavors.
Irene was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. Since 2010, she served weekly in the Dallas, Texas Temple. Irene had a firm belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the plan of salvation and eternal families.
Irene is survived by her husband, Dennis Ned Moon and her ten children: Heather Moon, Heidi (Travis) Jeanneret, Aaron Moon, Jared (Ronda) Moon, Dennis (Amanda) Moon, Adam (Anna) Moon, Larissa (Dayne) Ram, Nathan (Shayla) Moon, Laurel (Bryan) Stiles, Jordan (Dakota) Moon, 23 grandchildren, her mother, Evelyn, and her five siblings, June, Patrick, Colleen, Rosa and Randy.
A visitation for Irene will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2010 S. Carrier Parkway, Grand Prairie, TX 75051. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, with committal at 1:15 PM at the Dallas -Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
