Joanna Lee Jeter was born in Long Beach California on April 10, 1947 to Billy Jeter and Joyce Chambers Jeter. Being an “Army Brat” they lived in many places until they eventually moved to Grand Prairie where “Joannie” (as her family lovingly referred to her) married David Gray on February 3, 1964 at the First Christian Church in Grand Prairie. They shared 52 tremendous years together as well as three children; Teresa, Dennis & Kyle.
Joannie was preceded in death by her Parents Billy & Joyce Jeter along with her 2 beloved cats, Harley and Ty.
Joannie left us on April 24, 2016 at the age of 69 with her husband by her side. Always together rarely apart.
Early on Joannie was active in many sports, softball, volleyball & bowling. She was also very supportive of her children’s activities such as troop leader in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. When her children were young she volunteered at their elementary school. She was the head scorekeeper for the Grand Prairie Girls Softball Association, as well as a certified Scuba diver. She had a great love for all books. Later in her life when it became harder for her to get around her activities changed, she was an avid fan of Tennis and watched it daily. She also loved her Game Show Network, the Amazing Race, Survivor & Big Brother. She loved putting puzzles together, working on crosswords and playing cards with her family and Spaghetti with cheese. Her Love for Diet Coke and popcorn was well known. Very rarely did you ever see her without a Diet Coke in hand.
She never met a person she didn’t like and she was loved by all that met her.
She worked 20+ years at the Drawing Board in customer service. Upon getting laid off she went to work with her husband in the family business.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas, she loved everything about it, but what she loved most was her enormous Christmas Village which she had David bring out every year whether he wanted to or not and it took up the whole living room, but he always brought it in because it gave her such joy.
She loved her family deeply & made sure they knew how she felt about them until her last breath. She fought a long hard battle and in the end all she wanted was peace. She takes with her the love of her family and the many friends that she made over the years.
Survivors include: Husband of 52 years David of Grand Prairie, daughter Teresa & husband Tony of Mansfield, son Dennis & fiancé Lauren of Georgetown, son Kyle and partner Kent of Dallas. 3 Grandchildren, Joshua and wife Nicole, Michael, Whitney & fiancé Jason. 1 Great Grandchild Colton, Sister Nita McGregor, her 2 best friends, Mary Johnson & Karen Colvin, as well as a niece, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins but also the many, many friends she made along the way.
