

John Edwin Churchill passed away July 1, 2014 in Glen Rose. He was born October 4, 1960 in Cleburne, TX to Edwin Earl Churchill Jr. and Nelda McPherson. John grew up in Grand Prairie, TX; he attended Houston Elementary, Adams Junior High and graduated from Grand Prairie High School as an original Gopher in 1979. During all four years of high school John played football. After graduating he attended University of Texas for 3 years, but transferred to TCU in Fort Worth where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. While in college John would spend his summers traveling around with his band playing the guitar and singing.John began working for his father as a builder after school. From there he worked at Dupont Corporation before becoming a GPISD teacher in 1999. He taught social studies for Lee Middle School, was a football, basketball and track coach for Birdville ISD and was currently teaching at Dubiski Career High School. John was a loving man who enjoyed writing songs, playing guitar and being around animals. In 1987 he married Sandy Frederick and had a son Edwin Churchill III. John was also civil war buff who turned all vacations into a history class. His favorite place to be was at his cabin on the Brazos River. He loved it so much he was a member of “Friends of the Brazos River”. John was strong-willed but very generous with the biggest heart. After separating from his first wife he reconnected with an old high school sweetheart Julie McMurry. They were married December 20, 2010. John was a dedicated husband and father who loved his students like they were his own.He is preceded in death by his father Edwin Earl Churchill Jr.He is survived by his wife Julie Churchill; sons Eddie Churchill, Kyle Willborn and Clay Willborn; mother Nelda Coonrod and husband Ron, sister Mallisa Rivette and husband Al, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
