     This is about the time of year would we would mature, a little bit anyway, enough for one of us to call the other, to see what is up or what was going on.   Although, unfortunately for me, you were better add  it than I was, and when I think about it now, I wish I had called you more often,   so I had known you were sick.   Just like you not to say anything about it, because you knew I would have done the same.   It was always around New Years or in early in February, since our birthdays were only two days apart.   Mine being the 4th and yours the 6th.  I hope the good Lord is showing patience with you.   Happy Birthday old friend.

My heart just breaks as Jon Lee & I were so tight during his year’s at Armando’s Green Flash! I was saddened by his sudden moving away, but Jon was a family guy. I will always remember his laugh~smile~presence!! RIP Buddy! ❤️

Hello..... worked with Jon.  When I first met him, I worked with him in the Suites at Lone Star Park.  He taught me how to make Sangria from scratch.  We became friends and I worked with him in the Jockey Club.  I will miss you Jon!!

So very sad to hear this news. Worked with him at OTMC back in the day. My cocktail waitressing shifts were ALWAYS more entertaining when Jon was behind the bar. Everyone loved him. He was quick with a joke or snarky comment and he always had a smile on his face. He'll surely be missed by all who've known him over the years. Rest in peace, friend.

It's been over a week since we received news of Jon's passing and we are still without words to adequately express our loss and sorrow.  What a wonderful fellow!  It was our pleasure to know him through rugby, bartending, and serendipitous meetings.  He even joined us for Thanksgiving one year (hard to believe that anyone with his personality and wide circle of friends)!  A delight -- always a delight to see him and spend time together.  We are so sorry that we were unaware of his illness and unable to communicate how much we appreciated his good nature and great friendship.  We send our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.  We have truly lost someone special.

My husband, Don, and I are members of the Lone Star Park Jockey Club.  When Jon Lee entered our life, he knew nothing about horse racing and we knew nothing about him - but that changed immediately as there was an instant connection between all of us!  Don and Jon share the same Feb. 6th birthday and both were raised in families with their fathers serving in the military.  Jon and I shared (among other things) a very wicked sense of humor!

Yes, he was a terrific bartender and server and had some of the best "customer service" instincts of anyone we have ever encountered.  He quickly learned where every JC member liked to sit (kind of like having the same pew every week in your church)and what and when they liked to eat and drink.  He had an uncanny sense of being able to be "there" and was never obtrusive. 

But wait! There's much more!  We gradually began to teach Jon about horse racing and wagering (as if we were all so successful) . He was ready for us on the "Big Race" days  - where many times we were all together for at least 8 hours.  He was always bragging about the great food his sister Michelle prepared for him almost every day he worked. Many times he made sure that the JC members had extra food and snacks - usually courtesy of his devoted sister who made the Sam's run for him! 

There are many more stories to tell about the short term relationship we had with Jon. He was an exceptional person who exuded a  tapestry of warmth, humor, sincerity, and devotion to his friends and family.  His loss has left a huge hole in our hearts but he has left many footprints there so that he will never be forgotten.  RIP, dearest friend!  Thanks for the memories! Love, GA and Don Laseter  P.S. We are so sorry to hear of this sad loss. Jon was a much loved family member of The Green Flash Restaurant in Pacific Beach and he was our very popular bartender and friend too. Jon was a true people person who touched so many lives. He had a kind, caring, charming way about him  and what an upbeat, funny, loving personality he was! When Jon was hospitalized a few years ago here, we heard that the nurses and staff said he had the most visitors of any patient they had even seen! A true testament to how much Jon meant to all of us. We will never forget him and his beautiful smile.

John was a great teammate at OMBAC and a friend long after the playing days ended - I would go out of my way to stop in at OTMC, Bully's, or Green Flash just for one drink and a few laughs.  A fond memory was in the Chicago airport after we won the 1996 Club Championship on a muddy field with no time for showers before our return flight to San Diego.  Everyone was drenched and muddy.  Jon asked me, with no explanation, if I could check his bag and being a good rookie for a veteran I agreed.  After we all checked our bags and were heading to security in muddy track suits Jon emerges from the Men's room spotless with ironed pleated dress slacks, shined shoes, a no wrinkle shirt with the colors up, and smelling like roses.  He looked so sharp amongst the crowd of dirty rugby players headed to the flight.  It was so Jon Lee!!!  

Gods speed to the warmth of the Lord. Rest in peace and thx for sharing your gifts with so many. Lambo

Always enjoyed seeing Jon at practice at OMBAC. Always gad a smile. Was only there 2 years but even when I came back to SD and see John, he'd have that same big smile!

You introduced me to rugby the hard way… you ran me over and then picked me up. Always the character and comedian. From parachute pants in the 2000’s to the haircuts and the laughter, You will be missed. 

All I can say is, I Love You Jon, you will be missed, we have many memories, a few bad, but a ton of good.

Jon Lee   One of my all time favorite people. I remember one time when he was in the hospital for something and upon visiting him he was at the moment being chastised by the nurses for getting out of bed to do push-ups on the floor. They thought he had fallen out of bed and had rushed everyone to his rescue. In his own way, he just said I needed to get in my usual daily workout.   He will be missed by all.  Harvey Stewart

   I will miss our quick texts or phone calls to see how one another was doing.  I can’t say I will miss you always telling me how good you thought you looked.   It’s times like this that makes you wish we had done that more frequently.   My heart aches but I trust in God’s will.    I love you bro and  I will miss you my friend.

I will miss Jon.  Jon was always upbeat and jovial.  Jon always had his best foot forward.  There was never a dull moment when you saw and talked to him.  I was blessed to have known him, as  I got to know him quite well when he came to work in the Jockey Club as bartender at Lone Star Park.   Jon really liked to eat and would bring food to work that his sister Michelle had prepared that he offered to share with me.   One of the last things that Jon said to me was "God has a plan for me."  I know that Jon is in heaven now and God is probably saying "You got jokes?"

It has been difficult to write a message.  I am heartbroken to know I won't see Jon's smile or hear his corny jokes so I'm believing that he's still doing the same in heaven (doing the most).  I had a difficult time seeing him while he was ill but I always prayed for him.  So in his last few days I asked if he would forgive me . He squeezed my finger and tried to speak .  I'm grateful for that moment of peace, his strength and knowing he's resting in peace. I guess  I wanted to hold onto our last conversation as he expressed how happy he was to buy his new home I wanted to remember that memory of his joy and laugh at his "two-step"!!!! 

Jon.........GOD has given you a bigger and better home and I'm happy you now have your joy back. No more suffering, no more pain, I will miss seeing you. It's not goodbye....it's I'll see you later... Now you can dance again... Do your two-step all night long...


He was my best bud. I wish I could add some perfect picture of us hanging out, but seriously unless forced that wasn't anything we cared about doing. We would hang out pretty much every week, at least a few times every week prior to the world going crazy. Drinking mimosas (and him whiskey & coke) swimming was our end of the day goals or chilling in the backyard listening to music. He was so charismatic, funny, generous, and kind. I will always miss my Buddy, my "Funcle".



Jon was a very dear, special person in my life. Like many of his fiends , I met him when I worked at Old Town Mexican  Cafe and our relationship grew into an amazing one. For over 10 years Jon brought smiles to my face and joy to my heart. We have shared many, many memories I was even lucky enough to meet his father, Norman on his visits here to San Diego. What an amazing  man. Jon, you will always have a special place in my heart, forever and always. Love always, your  Natalie 

I can't believe Jon is gone. Jon will be greatly missed. He had the sweetest and kindest heart. His smile and personality could light up the room. I met Jon at Old Town Mexican Cafe. We were close buddies. He bought me a dozen roses to congratulate me when I graduated from SDSU. I will miss you, Jon.

Jon worked with me and my husband before we got married in the early 90’s at Old Town Mexican Cafe.  He would make me laugh and put me in my place when I needed it😀…he was always genuine.  He brought joy to a lot of people and will be greatly missed.
