It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Linda Sue LaFond, 79, of Grand Prairie, Texas. Linda was born October 17, 1945 in Harriman, Tennessee, to Arthur Lee and Maudie Braye Wright. Linda passed at home on October 24, 2024, after a very long battle with cancer.
Linda found the love of her life and married our dad, Billy Phillip LaFond, on October 20, 1963. Together they had three children, Rebecca, Billy and Phillip.
In 1983 Linda became an enrolled agent with the IRS and started her own business, LaFond Tax and Bookkeeping. Linda loved her work, she loved her clients and they became her extended family. None of her clients ever simply came to her office to sign documents, or drop off paperwork and leave. Linda always checked up on their life happenings, their families, and to just visit for a while. They were truly her extended family.
Our mom will be remembered for so many things. She was terrified of water, never learned to swim, but she would put on two life jackets and climb into a bass boat with our dad to fish at tournaments. This was because dad loved to fish and she deeply loved dad. Mom's Tennessee twang slowly mixed with dad‘s Texas accent. We will never forget her potato salad, pea salad, wacky cake, and her love for catfish and hush puppies. Linda also loved to read.
In addition, Mom and Dad both had a great love of beagles, so they began to raise them. Some time later, she became involved with rescuing unwanted/homeless cats, especially "Trouble", whom she bottlefed, along with his brother "Skyler".
Linda is preceded in death by the "love of her life" Billy; parents, Arthur and Maudie Wright: brother and Vietnam veteran, Ed Wright; sister, Lucille Wright; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William P. and Mildred Grace LaFond; and grandson, Ian Allensworth.
Linda is survived by her children; daughter, Rebecca Ruth Allensworth, son, Billy P. LaFond (Diedre Igo LaFond) and son, Phillip Lee LaFond; granddaughters; Alexandra Allensworth and Samantha Grace LaFond; grandsons, Billy Phillip LaFond II and Andrew LaFond, and their mother, Trina Rhodes, nieces and nephews; Kristen, Stoney and Jeffrey Meyers; and Linda's "second children" niece and nephew; Randay and Dawn Shoven.
Special mention to Roger Gardner (companion) and Lupe Hidalgo, who worked with Linda for over 20 years, and along with Letty, is family.
A Celebration of Life for Linda will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 3:00PM in the chapel of Grand Prairie Funeral Home located at 733 Dalworth St, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
Linda requested that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ASPCA or Prairie Paws GP in her name.
