Michael (Mike, Mick, Mickey) and his parents moved to Texas when he was six weeks old. He never lived in any other state again. His father began a career in education after his service, which moved the family to several Texas towns over the years. They settled in Jacksonville, Texas in the late 1950s. Mike attended Jacksonville High School, where he made many lifelong friends. After graduation, Mike entered the University of Texas, majoring in Business Administration. His college plans were paused when he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard. Mike returned to college after his service, graduating from East Texas State University (Texas A&M University-Commerce) with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Mike moved to Austin after college to work in accounting. He later became a federal bank examiner before accepting a comptroller position. It was then that he met his future wife, Sheryl. Within a year they married, began a family, and built a life together that blessed them for more than 40 years.
Mike, Sheryl, and their two daughters lived in Arlington Texas most of their time together. In the early years, Mike enjoyed his favorite hobbies, golf, and playing card games. He was especially proficient in bridge and poker. When their daughters started playing competitive tennis, he traded his hobbies for tennis travel to spend more time with his children. Watching tennis inspired Mike to become a grassroots tennis official, which he enjoyed doing for over 20 years.
After Mike retired from full-time work, he continued serving as a tennis official, but he also joined the City of Arlington‘s Crossing Guard team, which he enjoyed immensely, especially because of coworkers who became good friends.
What must be remembered about Mike, are his character and values, most significantly his kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others. Throughout the years, Mike came to the aid of countless family members and friends. He stayed bedside with a dying relative, drove family and friends to doctor appointments and emergency hospital visits, ran errands for those who could no longer drive, and so much more. Mike was the first one to offer help, without fail.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, E.G. (Jack) and Pauline Osborn, and younger brother, Larry Osborn. He survived by his wife, Sheryl Osborn, daughters Sarah (Ramsey) Wright and Lisa Osborn, and granddaughters Cameron and Macyn Wright.
A Coming Home Celebration will be held on Friday, March 17 at 3:30 PM in the Café at the Retreat, 2902 South Beltline Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandprairiefh.com for the Osborn family.
