

Nathan Olie Cantrell, 73, died on June 28, 2016 at his home in Grand Prairie, Texas after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was born to Olie and Myrtle Cantrell of late on November 22, 1942 in Malakoff, Texas.
Nathan grew up in Malakoff till he was 10 years old then they moved to Grand Prairie where he attended Grand Prairie High School. One day he stopped to help a young woman whose car broke down. He bought her a new tire, offered to fix her car and even drove her to work. After dating for 2 years he married Mary Lou Gaines on August 9, 1969.
Nathan worked at Kennedys Garage as a mechanic, owned his own garage with his brother and worked in excavation for 40 years. He was the owner of Cantrell Excavating Company. He was a member of 1st Assembly of God Church and Thomas B. Hunter Lodge #1356. He was a Hella Shriner and made it to 32nd degree mason.
In his free time Nathan enjoyed racing cars, taking trips to WinStar and Shreveport and having coffee at Emma’s Coffee Shop or more currently Prairie Dog Coffee Shop. He was a sweet fun-loving man who would bend over backwards for family or friends. He had a heart of gold, was the most tolerant person you could know and loved his family first. He was always surrounded by his loving family.
Nathan is survived by his wife Mary Lou and four children: Teresa Redmon of California, Kentucky, Regina Cook of Frankfort, Kentucky, Cindy Lou Dickey of Keller, Texas, James L. Hornbeck of Lawrenburg, Kentucky; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Bettie Mathes of Weatherford, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
