He emigrated from Cuba in 1968 and worked and lived in Tarrytown, New York for 11 years until retiring to Miami, Florida.
Zaza as he was known to most of his teammates was a great baseball player in his younger days in Cuba and was famous for his hook pop-up slide, which he continued to perform into his late fifties, while playing softball in Tarrytown. He was a die-hard Yankees fan and proudly wore his Yankees apparel everywhere, including nemesis Boston and Texas.
On July 4, 1953 in Cuba, he married the love of his life Maria (Titi) Del Toro, who predeceased him in 1997. He was also predeceased by his parents and brother Pedro and sister Teresa.
He is survived by his two sons, Raul Cabello Jr. (Barbara) of Grand Prairie, TX and Jose Cabello (Lily) of Wappingers Falls, NY. Three grandchildren Steven Cabello (Kourtney) of Hopewell Junction, NY, Raul Cabello III (Valerie) of Arlington, TX and Alec Cabello (Talia) of White Plains, NY. He is also survived by six great grand children Avery, Sofia, Xavier, Sabrina, Amelia and Nathan. He is survived by many nieces and nephews in Miami, FL and Costa Rica.
Raul was the most loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, brother and friend. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed every moment. He loved to eat, dance and make everyone around him happy. But most of all, he loved being around his family.
A visitation for Raul will be held Friday, April 30, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
