

Shirley was born on September 3, 1937 to Oscar T. and Blanche M. Jay in Sherman, Texas. She was residing in Grand Prairie, Texas where she attended Florence Hill and ultimately obtained her GED. She met and married, John Harvey Stephens in 1952 and they built their life together. He worked for the City of Grand Prairie and she worked in semi conductors at Texas Instruments.
Later on in life, after accepting Christ, she became an ordained minister and continued from there to work for God. Nanny, as she was known to all, was a great prayer warrior and lived her life ready for Heaven daily. She will be greatly missed by one and all.
Shirley in preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Oscar "son" Jay, Wanda "sis" Lacefield, Mildred Richards, James Melton, Evelyn Busby and granddaughter, Jennifer Stephens Burgess.
She is survived by husband of 70 years, John Stephens; children, Elizabeth Vanloon, Charlotte Hammonds and husband, Paul, Errol Stephens and wife, Teresa, Deborah Jeannine Humphreys and husband, Billy Joe; grandchildren, Amy Hansbro and husband, Boyd, Erica Lee and husband, Brett, Paula Hammonds and John Steven Hammonds; sisters, Judy Lacour, Rosemary Smith, Wanda Moore and Nita Kirn; great-grandchildren, John Schikling, Meredith Burgess and Nevaeh Stanley, Tessa Hansbro, Boyd Allen, Jr and wife, Ameeka, and Jackson Hansbro; along with a host of other family members and friends, as she never met a stranger.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM. A committal service will follow at Old Southland Cemetery, 1205 SW 3rd Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75051.
